The Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU has undergone a series of significant amendments in 2026, with delegated regulations addressing cybersecurity, internet connectivity, and direct network connectivity requirements now entering into force. Manufacturers placing wireless equipment on the European market must ensure their products comply with the expanded essential requirements set out in the amended framework.
The most impactful change for the majority of manufacturers is the application of Article 3(3)(d), (e), and (f) of the RED, which were activated through Commission Delegated Regulation 2022/30 and subsequently extended. These requirements mandate that internet-connected radio equipment must protect against harm to networks, safeguard personal data, and support anti-fraud mechanisms. The original deadline was extended following industry pressure, but product families sold after August 2025 must now demonstrate full conformity.
The 2026 amendments also tighten the requirements around Declaration of Conformity documentation, requiring explicit references to harmonised standards or, where no harmonised standard exists, to the Common Specifications published in the Official Journal. Notified bodies are now required to assess files with greater scrutiny, and KTECH's technical team has observed a noticeable increase in requests for additional test evidence at the documentation review stage.
Manufacturers with products already carrying CE marking should conduct a gap analysis to confirm that existing technical documentation addresses the expanded Article 3(3) requirements. KTECH Global Approval provides full RED compliance assessments, documentation review, and liaison with accredited notified bodies across the EU.
